Blended Lesson Videos

These lessons correspond with Ribbles 9 Elements of Digital Citizenship. These videos were compiled as a resource to send home to parents to allow them to work through digital citizenship alongside their child. I would complete a cross-curricular digital citizenship lesson in class and then send the corresponding blended lesson home as homework. My suggested order of completion is accessible in the 'Overview & Resource' document.

Digital Access

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Teacher will review the terms needs/wants and explain that technology is a want

  • Teacher will explain digital access

  • The child will discuss & write/record answers on Seesaw for when & where to use technology at home.

  • This chart will be shared through Seesaw but can also be displayed at home for reference.

Digital Commerce

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Teacher will share information about Digital Commerce

  • Teacher will guide parents and students through a discussion about navigating pop-ups

  • Parents and child will set up rules/procedures/consequences for clicking things they should not/ buying things online without permission.

Digital Communication

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Teacher explains the concept of Digital Communication

  • Teacher walks parents and their child through a discussion of their online behavior

  • Parents and child then work through analyzing their ‘digital footprint’; what others can see and that once it is digital it cannot be erased.

  • Students will come back to school and discuss what they learnt about their digital footprint

Digital Etiquette

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Teacher will explain the importance of digital etiquette

  • Then using Seesaw the students will interview a parent/sibling on what it means to treat others the way they want to be treated.

  • Students will follow the etiquette steps by asking permission before videoing and will practice adjusting the volume.

  • Families will then send the video through Seesaw to the teacher.

Digital Literacy

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Teacher will share information about Digital Literacy.

  • Teacher will send home a list of safe-search sites for kids

  • Parents can work to make a list at home or download safe-search sites on their child’s devices

  • Students will practice searching with their parents to learn/ draw about something they love

  • Students will site where they go their information from at the bottom of their paper

  • Students will bring their finalized project to school to present

Digital Health & Wellness

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Share document with parents about screen time

  • Discuss digital health and wellness

  • Have parents and their child make a screen time schedule at home

  • When to use technology, how to use technology, the purpose for using it (educational, enjoyment).

Digital Law

Blended Video Lesson:

  • The teacher will explain Digital Law

  • The teacher will provide links for free image sites for kids (pics 4 learning, flickrCC/ Photos for Class)

  • Children will work with a family member to create a collage about their favorite things using these free images sites

  • They will cite which websites they got their photo’s from

Digital Rights & Responsibilities

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Teacher will share information about Digital Rights & Responsibilities

  • The teacher will share the rules that the students have established at school

  • The teacher will prompt parents to set up similar rules and responsibilities at home for technology and have the child and parent sign it.

Digital Safety & Security

Blended Video Lesson:

  • Teacher will share information about Digital Safety and Security

  • Teacher will explicitly share the importance of students not sharing their first and last name, photo, or passwords online

  • Teacher will guide parents and child through creating a password/username book so parents have access to students online accounts
